TAK Podcast

Hello friends, I’m Mrs. Hood, and welcome to Teachers of All Kinds! TAK is a podcast where we teachers can benefit one another by sharing our unique experiences as individuals, who also happen to be teachers. Through conversation, you’ll discover how compelling and inspirational each one of our stories truly is.  Sometimes, the focus is on talking shop, or on personal growth, while other times you may hear more about the destination, or attaining pragmatic results in the classroom. You should know that I am passionate about creating space for interesting, insightful discussion, connecting with other educators, and most of all, enjoying the unpredictable discovery that comes from being authentic and just talking to each other. Different opinions, perspectives, and experiences, are all vital to me personally.  I want our fellow teachers to share in this vitality by being entertained, and at times, learn something that might favorably assist their practice. My goal for each guest is to provide the chance to be themselves, and to tell people what they care passionately about - in a conversational style, as uplifting as it is revealing. Your time is valuable. Thank you for spending some of it listening to Teachers of All Kinds. I’m Mrs. Hood, and I’ll see you next time, on TAK.

TAK is currently on hiatus until Fall 2021. We will see you soon!

Leadership Conference

I was invited to contribute to the Math Coaching and Leadership Network - Members Conference, held in January of 2021. My presentation for this event detailed the “Student Discussion & Collaboration Model."

Presentation Feedback

  • They are real trailblazers for distance learning and group work. Thank you.

  • Thanks for sharing your successes and struggles. It's really good to know that none of us are alone. THANK YOU AGAIN!!!

  • You inspired me to figure out something new and try it. That's what it's all about. Thank You!

  • Thank you for sharing what you tried first that wasn't as successful! So important and helpful to see what didn't work as well as what did :)

  • I really appreciate Angie sharing a real classroom example including the decisions and growths she made along the way to end up with the process she is using now.

  • Certainly appreciate the time and effort that went into this and your willingness to share. Look forward to continuing to learn in this unique environment.

  • Thank you for sharing your journey with us and then having us go through the activity as students. It was very helpful.

  • I appreciated the simple ideas that could be implemented in whole or in part without requiring both teachers and students to learn a lot of new technology.

  • Angie did an awesome job! We all could use examples of engagement strategies for online and the examples she shared were great.

  • I so appreciate the model of Angie giving us a quick overview with screen sharing and then allowing us to experience it for ourselves. I know we're short on time so this was very helpful to get to practice.

  • The session affirmed strategies for collaboration and discourse that I already use in my practice. The getting to know you in the small group was useful to consider because I often complete such activities whole class and early in a term but not ongoing. I can see ways that doing something ongoing could be useful.

  • I am impressed with your organization and thank you for sharing what worked as well as what didn't work as well for you starting out.

  • Thanks for sharing your discourse protocol thingy. I think it will be generally useful the the coming semester one I get my head around what I am doing and what you actually showed us.

  • I really appreciated hearing about what you are doing! I hear from middle school and high school parents that they aren't seeing their kid engaging in class, and I think that you are an example of how that isn't true! Math online can be humanizing!

  • Thank you Angie for joining us! It was nice to experience a collaborative activity in a way that our students might experience it. I liked the community building that was built in and had a space to complete together before starting the math - I will be using that idea, as well as sharing it with the teachers I work with.
